6 weeks pregnant!

For some reason I feel that 6 weeks is a milestone.  I'm actually very excited today.  You see, approximately today Little Lemos' heart begins to beat!

How your baby's growing:

This week's major developments: The nose, mouth, and ears that you'll spend so much time kissing in eight months are beginning to take shape. If you could see into your uterus, you'd find an oversize head and dark spots where your baby's eyes and nostrils are starting to form. His emerging ears are marked by small depressions on the sides of the head, and his arms and legs by protruding buds. His heart is beating about 100 to 160 times a minute — almost twice as fast as yours — and blood is beginning to course through his body. His intestines are developing, and the bud of tissue that will give rise to his lungs has appeared. His pituitary gland is forming, as are the rest of his brain, muscles, and bones. Right now, your baby is a quarter of an inch long, about the size of a lentil bean.

Maybe I'll offer a disclaimer:  pregnancy sometimes requires the sharing of personal/gross/inappropriate information.  So...if TMI bothers you....and you don't want to know, don't read it.

Up until this point I've been pretty symptom-free...and then I thought about it.  So far I've been experiencing:
  • Nausea.  No throwing up, but I feel nauseous about 80% of the day.
  • Ridiculously sore breasts.  This was my first symptom.
  • Bloating.
  • Sudden food aversions.  The thought of pretty much everything makes me queasy...expect Fuji apples.  For some reason I want apples.  Oh, and tonight I went grocery shopping and had to have artichokes.  I fried some chicken the other night....and couldn't even eat one piece.  It tasted strange.  Jon liked it.  Actually I'm finding that a lot of things taste different.  Oh, and the smell of the oil that I used to fry the chicken made me want to hurl the rest of the night....which brings me to my next, and maybe worst, symptom to date;
  • Hyper-sensitive smell.  I can smell EVERYTHING.  My co-worker's vegetable soup almost pushed me over the edge yesterday.  Today I came home from work today and opened all of the windows and doors because I couldn't stand the smell of my cats....the cats that I have lived with for 4 years.  The cats that never bothered me before.  Jon walked in and thought I was crazy.
  • Waking up to pee 4 times per night.
  • Oh, and I'm tired.
I'm not going to admit to moodiness...but I did do something the other day that made me laugh at myself afterward.  On Tuesday at work, a post-it note on someone else's desk was pissing me off, just the fact that it was there....so I threw it away.
    That's pretty much it so far! Ha.  Jon laughed at me last night.  I just keep telling myself that this is what I wanted.  It is.  It's exactly what I wanted and I'm so excited.

    Oh, and our first doctor appointment is on Tuesday!  We're looking forward to our first peak at Little Lemos!

    Today at work someone said something that really made me think.  He said that my little baby has gone from NOWHERE to NOW HERE in 6 short weeks.  How amazing is that.

    1. Definitely sounds like you're pregnant! I've heard about the heightened sense of smell during pregnancy.....guess it's not necessarily a good thing.

      I can't wait for you to start posting belly pics!
