Week 19 - Mango (which I HATE, by the way..)
Vernix caseosa, a greasy white substance made of lanugo, oil and dead skin cells (yum) now coats baby's skin, shielding it from the amniotic fluid. (Picture yourself after a nine-month bath, and the need for protection makes sense.) You might actually get to see the vernix at birth, especially if baby is premature.
Week 20 - Cantaloupe
Baby's digestive system is busy creating meconium (a tarry black substance made of swallowed amniotic fluid, digestive secretion and dead cells), which will fill the first diaper after birth. And, speaking of the diaper situation... baby's genitals are now fully formed!
So, baby is about 6.5" crown to rump....heat to toe she is 10-11 inches! By the end of the week she'll weigh one pound! Oh, and speaking of one pound....I had a doctor appointment on Tuesday....and in the past 4 weeks I have gained only 1 POUND! I'm very happy about that!
I can't believe that I'm HALF WAY DONE! 20 week = 5 months pregnant = 50% complete....yep, that's right. You are officially pregnant for 10 full months. No one ever tell you that.
Anyway, what's been going on....hmm. Yesterday was Mother's Day. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all the wonderful moms and moms to be! Jon surprised me with the sweetest card. Totally unexpected! He said that he "wanted to be the first person in history to wish me a Happy Mother's Day." He makes me feel so loved :o) And I got cards from Jon's mom and step-dad, my brother & April, and my sister and Bobby. And my wonderful mom got me the cutest maternity shirts. I'm so lucky <3
What else....work. It's work. That's all I'll say about that.
Oh! Another baby was born last week! Congratulations Matt & Michelle! Madelyn is ADORABLE! Now...if only little Andrew would make his appearance. I know his mama would appreciate it!
