An unexpected appointment and round ligament pain

Today I had a bit of a scary morning.  I've had cramps on and off the entire pregnancy.  Pretty much the whole first 8-10 weeks it was constant.  Not uncommon, I'm told.  And then they went away.  Yay!  Well, about a week or ago they came back...and since yesterday I've also had a new symptom.  Shooting, stabbing pains.

My next appointment wasn't until next week...so this morning I decided to just call my doctor, to see what they suggested.  I told the receptionist my symptoms.  She put me on hold.  When she came back she said "how far are you from the office?" and "can you come in right now?"  And I freaked.  Apparently stabbing pains is reason enough to be seen immediately.  So, I went in.

I saw a different doctor today, and I loved her!  She was so nice and reassuring.  We listened to the heartbeat on the doppler...strong!  She did an exam...everything looked fine.  It seems that what I am experiencing is round ligament pain.  Not nice.  It's pretty much exactly what that website says.  It typically happens in the second trimester....so I'm right on schedule...not all women experience it, but I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.  It's happening because my uterus is moving up out of my pelvis into my belly...I guess it's a good sign that things are happening as they should!

I was hoping for an extra ultrasound...but no luck.  I'll have to wait a few more weeks for that.  My blood pressure was good.  And I've gained a total of.......ZERO pounds!  WOO!  Zero pounds in almost 15 weeks.  I'll take it!

On another good note, the doctor gave me the results of the 1st trimester screening that I had done a couple of weeks ago.  Our chances of Down's Syndrome are 1 in 15,000 and our chances of Trisomy 18 are 1 in 100,000.  She said that those are AWESOME numbers.

The little one is growing, growing, growing!  New belly pictures coming soon...there is obvious progress :o)
